Why is darkness black?

Well the clever answer would be.................. it's the opposite to light, which is 'white'. Actually light and the different colours from the light spectrum are wave-lengths, a different one for each colour. Black (darkness, i.e. the absence of light) does not have a wave length - it's negative.
