About J.R.R Tolkien's works*********?

Hey, i just wanted to ask those who are familiar with tolkien's works notably the silmarillion and the lord of the rings sequel. Personally i found the works very fascinating, loved the movies too, though there is one thing i wonder about. How did tolkien come up with his fictional world including the names of people, places, languages? are they based on something, because it seems that most of the names and words used have a similar root. . Everything is so organised, almost every detail is taken care of, i believe he must have used some references ad maybe altered them. If any of u cld pls send me a link to read more about this or just explain i'd really appreciate it
